Concerto Copenhagen’s new release reimagines Bach’s Organ Trio Sonatas as if they were brand new Brandenburg Concertos.

This bold experiment, described as “historically informed fiction,” has been led by oboist Antoine Torunczyk in close collaboration with the ensemble. The result is six dazzling concertos, deeply rooted in Bach’s own music – but voiced through a kaleidoscope of baroque colours: oboe da caccia, viola d’amore, viola pomposa, and more.

Girls in Airports

On our tenth album, we’ve joined forces with the visionary string trio Halvcirkel to create Imaginal — a work where Nordic light meets futuristic synths and a restless rhythmic sea. The music feels both familiar and new — unmistakably Girls in Airports, yet transformed into something else. Behind the sound lies a deep belief in community. For us, it’s never just about the music itself, but about seeing and listening — to one another, and to the world around us. In our collaborations with Teitur, Ajo, and now Halvcirkel, we’ve always tried to move deeper — into both the music and the people behind it. Imaginal grew over a year and a half of long sessions — all of us together in our rehearsal room in Vanløse, and at times in a small basement studio in Nørrebro — where ideas were explored and reshaped in an open, curious space. We’ve learned to trust that every musician carries a deep musicality and understanding of their instrument. That trust has guided the process from start to finish. At its heart, Imaginal is about patience — a willingness to give everything, and to let the music take the time it needs. Most of the material began as new melodic sketches by Martin Stender, but we also revisited older pieces in new forms, and included one composition, Nidingen, written by Halvcirkel. It’s a fragile thing — to give everything, to listen, and to be fully present together in new constellations, especially when rhythmic and classical musicians meet. But we’ve found that it’s precisely there, in that open space, that something larger can appear — something that reaches beyond ourselves.
