A few years after moving from Scotland to Canada I had the opportunity to work with talented producer and songwriter/keyboard player Sam Reid from the band Glass Tiger. Sam skillfully guided me towards my debut album "100 Camels" and it became everything I had lived and learned up to that moment. The record laid a new foundation in a new country. I know some folks still call this one of their favourite David Leask records and I'm still proud of all the songs and incredible musicians and engineers that brought it together. Thanks to the label Iron Music/BMG I was able to shoot a music video for the song "Driving On" that was a whole new experience, including driving a Pontiac Parisienne from 1965, the year of my birth! You can check out the album here and watch the video below.
Thanks as always for listening and watching. I'll be rolling out more content here wearing my heart on "Sleeve" building up to the release of my new Album "One Ray of Light at a Time" so I hope you can stay tuned.
Meet you in the music!

David Leask"One of the joys of reviewing albums is discovering unknown singer-songwriters who may never be household names but are amazing talents. I've added David Leask to a group that includes John Prine, Joe Henry, John Hiatt and Peter Himmelman. This Scottish-born musician, who now lives in Canada, crafts an exquisitely tender and thoughtful 10-song, 34 minute package. The centrepiece, which is the unforgettable title track, sears into your mind. The song focuses on the death of Somali teenager Shidane Arone in Canadian Military hands. Rather than criticizing, it's a mournful and even angry track. Vocally, Leask can be compared to former Jam and Style Council Paul Weller. He also has the same sense of quiet and subtle but deadly hooks." Perry Bergson, BRANDON SUN ********** "The buzz about this album's good and I'm not one to argue with the bees. This is tough, straight-ahead folk music with a clear understanding of how to seduce a CD player. It's got a healthy taste of country, sprinkled like sugar throughout, and is Canadian driven lyrically (Leask uses the cold as imagery more than once). Stronger Than Friction has all the energy of the first day of spring, Cold, the frustration of opening a window in the dead of winter. " Fish Griwkowsky, EDMONTON SUN
I am new here but looking forward to wearing my “heart on Sleeve”. I’ll be uploading my entire back catalog of albums and singles, followed by the exclusive release of my brand new album “One Ray of Light at a Time”.

...but I'm releasing a Christmas song this Friday! You're the first to know, and you can listen to it via this secret link: https://shorturl.at/LSqBk <3
"When Christmas Comes Around" was written last Christmas when horrific images from Gaza filled the screens while the Christmas shopping season was in full swing back home. The contrast was both surreal and heartbreaking – and I wanted to write a song for everyone who doesn’t necessarily look forward to Christmas, for various reasons.
Personally, I’ve lost both my parents over the past four years, and Christmas is a time when the sense of loss becomes especially strong. I also think about others who have lost someone they love, and those who dread Christmas because it is marked by violence, substance abuse, or social exclusion. There are many sad stories out there, and we need to look after each other.
Sending my love to all of you <3
