Inviting Fans to Join Your Membership Tier
Inviting Fans to Join Your Membership Tier for Free
You can give specific fans, collaborators, or industry contacts free access to any paid membership tier. They get the same member-only content, exclusive posts, and Extras as paying members... without paying.
These invites are called comps (industry slang for "complimentary tickets"). Useful for:
- Friends and family who shouldn't have to pay for your work
- Collaborators and bandmates who need member-only access for shared posts and Extras
- Industry contacts (label folk, journalists, sync supervisors, bookers, A&R) who you want to give a closer look
- Long-time supporters you want to thank
- Welcome offers for new fans joining your list (a free month, a free taste of what's behind the membership wall)
How to send a comp invite
- Open your artist dashboard (open the Your Sleeve menu in the top-right, choose Manage).
- Click the Subscribers tab.
- Scroll to Invite Your Inner Circle.
- Type or paste the email addresses you want to invite. Separate multiple addresses with commas or put each on a new line... you can invite one person or a whole list at once.
- Pick which membership tier the invite is for.
- Send.
Each invitee gets an email with a link to claim their free membership.
Tracking your invites
After you send, you can see all your pending and accepted invites in the same Subscribers tab. You'll see:
- Who's accepted... they're now members of the tier you invited them to
- Who's pending... they got the email but haven't clicked through yet
- Cancel an invite... if you sent it by mistake or no longer want to extend access, you can revoke before they accept
What invitees see
When they click the invite link, they land on a page where they confirm they want to join the tier. If they're already on Sleeve as a fan or another artist, the invite attaches to their existing account. If they're new to Sleeve, they create an account quickly and the tier access activates immediately.
From there, they have the same access as anyone who paid for the tier... member-only posts, Extras on releases, livestreams, the works.
A note on Sleeve plans
Comp invites are part of the Memberships feature, which requires a paid Sleeve plan (Pro or higher). See Pricing for what each plan includes.
The artist (you) is on a paid Sleeve plan. The fans you invite are not paying for Sleeve themselves... they're just getting the tier you'd normally charge them for.
Smart ways to use comps
- Welcome new fans with a free month. When you launch a tier or onboard a list of artists from an old mailing list, comp them for 30 days so they can try the depth before deciding to pay
- Thank your longest-running supporters. The fans who showed up at your shows in 2018 deserve a permanent comp
- Bring industry contacts inside. A sync supervisor or label A&R who can see your member-only Extras has a much fuller picture of what you're making
- Hand them out at shows. Print a QR code that goes to the invite signup page. Hand it out at the merch table to fans who introduce themselves
